Through the constant communication, we’ve kind of come up with a language of our own. All those words you thought you understood, you really don’t.

Here are 11 words that mean something completely different to volleyball players. 

1. “Pancake”

What it normally means: A delicious breakfast. Best when served, stacked to the max with butter and syrup.

What it means to a volleyball player: The final effort to save a ball from hitting the floor. The crowd will go wild.

What it normally means: The food you drown in BBQ sauce when you’re watching football.

What it means to a volleyball player: A weak attempt at saving the ball that you’ll probably get yelled at for doing.

3. “Floater”

What it normally means: Multiple meaning but sometimes refers to a person who is continually changing their place of residence or employment.

What it means to a volleyball player: A type of serve that creates a float in the ball making it more difficult for the opponent to track.
